How to Celebrate Joy in 2020

November 25, 2020

One of my clergy colleagues posted a question in a Facebookgroup recently. They asked, “How do I describe 2020 without using languageinappropriate for church?” There were several replies, many of which usedrhymes, but one person suggested using biblical language itself. They pointedto the word “Gehenna” often mistranslated as “hell” but which actually refersto a real place where the people of Jerusalem used to dump and burn theirgarbage.  “Gehenna” means “dumpster fire” which wraps up 2020 pretty well.

The question is: How do you celebrate Gaudete Sunday,“Gaudete” means “joy,” while standing in the middle of “Gehenna”?  That’sthe subject of our worship this Sunday. We hope you’ll join us online with ourYouTube premiere at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
