Mark Asked to Leave

August 29, 2019

Introduction

Are you feeling unraveled yet?! I have been wondering if our worship theme is helping to normalize all that continues to shift around and inside of us, or if we are somehow contributing to the chaos with our focus on all of these loose ends?! I DO know that God is a dynamic constant in our midst. Sometimes it takes a refocusing of energy and attention toward the Divine among us to remind ourselves of this. For me, God is ever-present and ever-changing, a thought that brings me solid ground and comfort.

This Sunday, we will continue with “Unraveled Community” in the story of the “Gerasene Demoniac,” an oversimplified and even offensive title to a fascinating and dramatic story in Mark 5: 1-20. We will continue to talk about racial justice and the current opportunity before our nation and our communities to re-imagine a better and more just way for ourselves.

Don’t forget that tomorrow is Juneteenth, Emancipation Day, when Black communities across the US remember the day that enslaved people in Texas learned TWO YEARS LATER that they had been freed by Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. I would bet that I am not alone in being a white person who has only recently learned of the importance of Juneteenth to U.S. culture and history.

Join us for worship on YouTube at 10:00 on Sunday and on Zoom for virtual coffee hour and small group conversation afterward.

Peace and so much love to you,

Pastor Laura
